A former Peoria fire captain was sentenced this morning to 11 years in prison for having child porn on his home computer.
Darren Reeves apologized and said he was in a difficult place in his life when he downloaded more than 100 illicit images. The 14-year veteran of the department had pleaded guilty in May to receipt of child porn.
Reeves resigned from his position, a move that will allow him to keep the pension he has earned to date, his attorney Kevin Sullivan said.
Sullivan pushed for a seven-year sentence, well below the guideline range, saying his client had gone from the “penthouse to the outhouse,” in a span of one year.
The judge noted Reeves had obtained counselling and wished him well, saying he hoped he was one of the few who was able to turn his life around.
