An illegal immigrant from China who "disappeared" more than seven years ago tried to sell counterfeit DVDs to two off-duty police officers in Northampton.
You Ping Guo, 36, travelled from London to Northampton on October 2 with a holdall containing 187 fake DVDs of current cinema film releases and hardcore pornography.
William Falshaw, prosecuting at Northampton Crown Court, said: "The defendant approached two off-duty police officers in Stimpson Avenue. He was carrying a grey holdall and offered them DVDs for sale. He was arrested and taken to the police station where the holdall was examined and 187 counterfeit DVDs were found."
The court heard 129 computer discs held current cinema releases which are not yet available on DVD, as well as 58 pornographic films which had no classification.
Mr Falshaw added: "He was interviewed and said he had been given the DVDs by a friend of a friend to sell for £3 each, of which he would keep £2.
"He was a seller, the outlet, but one would put him down as a minor cog in the operation."
Ping Guo, of Deptford High Street, south London, pleaded guilty to three offences of possessing videos without classification and three offences of possessing goods with fake trademarks.
After hearing that he had spent 36 days in custody, Judge Charles Wide QC said he had been punished enough and gave him a 12-month conditional discharge.
