Web page Wendy Day used for educational and Christian topics taken over, filled with X-rated content.
An Internet blog belonging to a controversial school board member who touts family values was hijacked by a pornographer.
Howell Public Schools' Wendy Day said she deleted her page several weeks ago because it became a source of divisiveness in the community. On Monday, she learned an unknown user took over her page and posted "disgusting" material.
Instead of links to news articles and her views on educational and Christian topics, visitors to "For a Better Day Blog" found raunchy offers for an erotic dating service and various X-rated photographs.
Day said she immediately notified the administrator at Google's free publishing tool Blogger and flagged the page for inappropriate material. The pornography was removed by Monday afternoon and Day reclaimed the page.
Chris Schrieber, spokesman for Google's Blogger, said via e-mail, that when users delete their blogs, their domain name goes back into rotation allowing anyone to sign up for it, which was the case with Day's blog.
Pornographic content violates Blogger's policy and administrators, once notified, quickly act to remove it, Schrieber said.
Day began her blog last year shortly before being elected to the school board and the site deteriorated to anonymous attacks on her and her association with a family values group. "When I started I wanted it to be method of communication on topics of school issues," she said Monday.
